Such big news we needed a whole page dedicated to it!
We are excited about the next big step for Save Our Trees(SOT). Our mission is so closely aligned to the Anne Arundel County Watershed Stewards Academy’s (WSA) that we knew we would all be more effective if we joined forces. On April 24, 2023, SOT officially became a program within the well-established WSA.
It was a chilly Monday morning but the WSA and SOT teams came together in full force for signing day at Truxtun Park! In the background, you can see one of the trees with the ivy cleared and a ribbon tied around it to show our handiwork. We know the ivy doesn’t stand a chance!
WSA mobilizes community leaders to take action with their neighbors to restore local waterways in Anne Arundel County and is located at Arlington Echo Outdoor Education Center. Since 2009, WSA has certified over 330 Watershed Stewards from Brooklyn Park to Herring Bay, completed 5,000 projects, and planted 254,000 native plants and trees. Eliminating English Ivy and other invasive vines to save our valuable canopy trees is one of many key practices taught in the certification course to ensure local forests are healthy enough to filter water and clean our air.
